Society in Teenagers

Actualizado: 29 mar 2020

by Maria Sillas

Now a days, we see how teenagers get influenced by society to do things they will regret, such as drinking. Drinking alcohol comes with many consequences, including our social reputation and health problems. Even though, teenagers still influence each other that drinking is “cool” or is the way of being accepted into a popular group.

In the society we get to live in, we experience how a group of friends push each other to drink so they get to be accepted by each other and don’t be left out of anything. When you’re in a group of friends that all of them drinks except you, eventually they will start to make you feel less and bad about not drinking and encourage you to do so, many fall for this, but if your “friends” force you to drink, are they really you’re friends? Friends always support each other even though they may think differently, they will always want the best for you, and teenage drinking isn’t it. Another problem our society has is that we see teenage drinking as “normal” when it is actually not, we normalize it because of how many do it, even though it is not normal. We need to stop accepting something that is not correct and begin to see it as what it is a big problem.

What they don’t know is how alcohol affects them physically and mentally throughout their life. They don’t realize it now, but many consequences come in through years, including alcohol poisoning, side effects, failure of brain development, mental illnesses, lead to other dangerous substances, liver damage and many other problems. They may don’t care about these problems because they think it won’t happen to them, but if they continue to drink, they may develop many consequences.

In conclusion, it all comes back to society, in how we permit us to let this happen and do nothing about it, to normalize it when it isn’t normal. This shouldn’t be allowed if we compare our society to the one our parents use too live is completely different for so many reasons, we need to stop now because if not future generations would be even worst. Don’t let peer pressure get the best of you. Be true to yourself and remember a true friend is the one, who accepts you the way you are.
